Building an Exchange 2013 Server for Demo
I’ve been building up a number of machines for my demo environment - this one is for Exchange 2013. - a video in here shows the build process.
As you’ve probably worked out from my recent blog entries, I’ve been building a number of machines for my mobile/laptop based demo system. In this one for example, I’m building an Exchange 2013 server.
This video shows the run through, and shows how easy it is to get a basic build together, and Outlook running. I’ve not gone through all the mail policies, certificate, autodiscover etc. that you would on a ‘proper’ system, but it’s a good place to start.
You can see a full list of server build pre-reqs on the following Microsoft article:
Exchange 2013 Prerequisites
You can install a big chunk of the pre-reqs from an elevated PowerShell prompt using this command (bear in mind you’ll have to reboot afterward):
Install-WindowsFeature AS-HTTP-Activation, Desktop-Experience, NET-Framework-45-Features, RPC-over-HTTP-proxy, RSAT-Clustering, RSAT-Clustering-CmdInterface, RSAT-Clustering-Mgmt, RSAT-Clustering-PowerShell, Web-Mgmt-Console, WAS-Process-Model, Web-Asp-Net45, Web-Basic-Auth, Web-Client-Auth, Web-Digest-Auth, Web-Dir-Browsing, Web-Dyn-Compression, Web-Http-Errors, Web-Http-Logging, Web-Http-Redirect, Web-Http-Tracing, Web-ISAPI-Ext, Web-ISAPI-Filter, Web-Lgcy-Mgmt-Console, Web-Metabase, Web-Mgmt-Console, Web-Mgmt-Service, Web-Net-Ext45, Web-Request-Monitor, Web-Server, Web-Stat-Compression, Web-Static-Content, Web-Windows-Auth, Web-WMI, Windows-Identity-Foundation
Also, you’ll need to download and install these components:
Microsoft Unified Communications Managed API 4.0, Core Runtime 64-bit
Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Pack 64 bit
Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Pack SP1 64 bit
Anyways, the video below shows the build from a vanilla, domain-added, Windows 2012 Standard server. At the end of it, you should have a basic working system that you can go on to do whatever you want with. You can see the hi-def version natively on YouTube here.
