Stupid Apple Mail is Stupid

Apple Mail is full of fail.

====
Stupid Apple Mail app is stupid. Why, I hear you ask? Well, it’s handling of fonts is beyond terrible – and it’s irritating me.

You can set the font you want, right…? Well, kinda. You do have the option to set the fonts you
write (I.e. what you see on your screen when composing) – see here:

FontSelect

So on my MBP my message font is set as Arial 14. So, I write an email and send to an Outlook user:

Message

It’s sending out in Arial 14, right? As you’d expect….except when you look at it from an Outlook user’s perspective – what do they receive?

TimesNewRoman

Time New Roman. What’s that about? Looking at the detail of the SMTP message being sent from Apple mail, I can see that there are no font tags in the message even though it’s sent as Rich Text.

What’s even weirder is that font tags are sent with signatures.

What does this mean? Well, it means you can control what people see in your signatures, but you can’t control how the body of your email looks in the receiver’s mailbox by default. I think that’s daft.

There is a slight exception to this – if you write your mail and then set the font by selecting the appropriate fonts, it then works:

AllFonts

This is received like you’d expect:

FontsDisplayed

It’s not the only fail with Mail either - the end results are just unpredictable?
